Torrijas

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 1 French baguette, sliced
  • 1 ½ pints milk
  • 4 tabs sugar
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • sugar and cinnamon powder (for decoration)
  • 2 eggs
  • oil

Method

  1. Place the cinnamon sticks in the milk and heat. When it is warm, add the sugar and keep heating until boiling point.
  2. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring all the time.
  3. Turn off the heat and leave to cool for a couple of minutes. Dip the bread in the milk mixture and let them soak.
  4. Beat the eggs together and dip the bread slices in.
  5. Fry the slices in hot oil.
  6. Remove the fried slices to a piece of kitchen paper to dry off.
  7. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon to serve.
